Yesterday, I was returning home after a drunken stroll through the streets and markets when a security incident occurred just a few meters away from me near the Gush Etzion junction. What followed was a car-ramming, stabbing, and shooting, which prompted a full mobilization and the closure of all roads. I was stuck in suffocating traffic, which brought back memories of what Palestinians call “operations.” I was shocked to see those around me cheering with joy and sharing news of the incident on their phones via social media, as if these perpetrators were heroes or men worthy of pride and respect, as well as the sacred status of martyrdom they hold dear!
What does that Palestinian think he is accomplishing? When he commits murder and suicide in an inconsequential security incident—one that changes nothing except increasing the suffering of the Palestinian people in those areas—he achieves nothing. His actions lack intelligence, effectiveness, and results, as though carried out by someone misguided and foolish. Anyone who commits suicide in this manner suffers from a mental disorder, an intellectual deficit, and an ignorant mindset. Does he seek Paradise and martyrdom? Or does he seek revenge for what is happening to his people?
We have seen those who praised these operations in the far south of the country—those who call themselves Hamas and their likes. They carried out the largest operation in the history of the Palestinian people and their cause. What did they reap for their people? Today, they are surrendering, accepting the relinquishment of power and the handing over of weapons. They have completely destroyed their people and their country. These people must have been deceived by the idea of Paradise and martyrdom, showing utter indifference to the consequences of their actions on their people. They truly do not care about the opinion or fate of their people. They find a means for suicide that is religiously, ideologically, socially, and politically justified. They simply see the Jew standing before them as a convenient pretext to commit suicide and leave this world, nothing more.
Perhaps they do not fully realize what they are doing, for a conscious, alert, and intelligent person would not act as they do, nor do anything in their manner. It is clear they are merely sick individuals in a society ridden with disease. The man killed yesterday was a 71-year-old Jewish man who was shopping at the supermarket located in that area of the Gush Etzion settlement complex, perhaps returning home peacefully leaning on his cane, when he was suddenly rammed and stabbed. Is there any honor in such fighting, resistance, or cause? An elderly, frail citizen, killed simply because their foolish hands reached him as quick, available prey. Is this resistance, or the honor of a cause and a people? This is a disgrace to them and to their people—these cursed individuals.
Even if we say that the Jews continue to mistreat the Palestinian people, and that these settlers—with their fierce attacks for nearly two years now—deserve a response and resistance, matters are not resolved through such a foolish approach. I believe this only adds fuel to the fire. These soldiers and settlers are strong and cunning in their war against the Palestinians; they do not commit suicide as the Palestinians do. I believe the Palestinian people, in this current situation, remain in a position of weakness. They must strive for peace and dialogue; they must seek a peaceful political solution with the Jews. The Jews must have accepted this before, and I believe they should accept it again.
The Jews have offered this sick society many opportunities, yet they have consistently rejected them. They constantly believe they are oppressed and occupied, which only worsens the severity of the occupation against them, dragging them into hell. They were given many opportunities, but they refused them. The blame falls upon the Palestinians for everything happening in this land. The Palestinians think they are strong, but they are completely helpless and commit so many acts of folly! What an absurdity!
