This list continues to lack diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. There are some real bangers coming out by non-white authors this week, though, so hopefully things will get shaken up a bit. There’s The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman by Deesha Philyaw, American Hagwon by Min Jin Lee, The House of Gardenias by Isabel Cañas, The American Way of Killing by Malcolm Gladwell, and more.

Interestingly, there were a few changes just from last week. Usually, titles are fairly similar to each other for close weeks. Between this week and last week, though, books like Taipei Story by R. F. Kuang, Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon, and some others were knocked out of the top 10 spot. They still made it onto the overall lists, though. Theo of Golden seems to be the one unshakeable title.

Many of the books new to this week are wonderfully on-theme for the season. Among them are new dark academia by Leigh Bardugo and a paranormal romance.

To get these numbers, we look at The New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover. Titles appearing here for the first time are bolded.
