RuneScape Reignited launches on December 2 as a permanent character type with its own economy and hiscores, giving new and returning players a fresh progression track without wiping existing accounts. Jagex says paid progression will not be available to Reignited characters.
The new start is intended for long-time players as well as people who have drifted away or never played before. Jagex says newcomers can experience 25 years of RuneScape from a shared starting point, while current players can keep their Veteran characters and join the new character type alongside them.
That makes Reignited a separate economy within the existing game, rather than a new world cut off from the rest of Gielinor. The approach builds on Jagex’s wider effort to refresh the long-running MMO, including its Player-Owned House overhaul.
A fresh start in shared worlds
Jagex describes Reignited as a permanent character type, with Veteran and Reignited characters intended to coexist much like Veteran and Ironman characters do now. Both types can enter the same worlds and talk to each other, but the rules keep their progression and economies distinct.
“It plays out in the same worlds that all existing characters are already playing in, and all Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content for the first 10 days following its launch,” Jagex explained in its official announcement.
Reignited also comes with its own hiscores and Grand Exchange. The Hall of Legends will give the new community another reason to race through that first stretch: players who claim world-first achievements will receive permanent statues representing their characters and accomplishments.
How the two character types differ
Jagex’s rules allow the communities to meet without letting one economy feed the other. Reignited characters can use Reignited-only worlds, while Veteran characters cannot; the character types also cannot share boss instances. Clans and homesteads, however, can include both.
| Feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Worlds and chat | Both character types can use shared worlds and communicate. |
| Trading and Grand Exchange | Trading is limited to characters of the same type, and each has its own exchange. |
| Boss instances | Veteran and Reignited characters cannot share instances. |
| Clans and homesteads | Both character types can join or form them together. |
There is no switching a character from Veteran to Reignited, or the other way around. Jagex says that would undermine the separate economies, and it has no predetermined plan to merge them later; for now, it says protecting the stability of both is the priority.
One update, with a 10-day trial
RuneScape Reignited, the Adventure Guide and the next step in remastering RuneScape’s early journey will arrive in one update on December 2. Every Reignited character will have free access to members’ worlds for the first 10 days, from December 2 through December 12.
That offer gives curious players a window to test the new progression track before deciding whether to continue with a Reignited character. The launch will not replace Veteran accounts: both character types are set to remain part of RuneScape, sharing the wider world while keeping their economies apart.
