Al Sharpton<\/strong> and<em> The View<\/em> cohost <strong>Sunny Hostin<\/strong> for comments they made about Wells\u2019 death, according to a story from the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nolan-wells-friends-terrell-owens-defamation-lawsuit-956ed0134195b5091eec74e126eeb116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a> on Tuesday, October 6.<\/p>\n<div id=\"starter\" class=\"mb1-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"mb1-static\" class=\"htlad-mb1\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"leader2-inline-static\" class=\"htlad-leader2\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Because the three friends are under 21, their fathers filed the lawsuit on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>Owens, 52, is facing heat because he posted via X, \u201cARREST THEM IMMEDIATELY! Like, yesterday,\u201d days after Wells\u2019 death when a Mississippi grand jury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/crime-news\/news\/no-criminal-charges-in-death-of-mississippi-teen-nolan-wells\/\">declined to recommend charges<\/a> against them. His post also linked to a video that accused the three of killing Wells, who was 18, and tampering with his phone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/crime-news\/news\/what-happened-to-nolan-wells-teen-went-missing-on-boat-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jury Decides Not to Press Criminal Charges in Nolan Wells Death: Case Updates<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the conduct of Owens and many other less-famous individuals, these completely innocent young men have been subjected to thousands of death threats, face-to-face harassment, and daily fear and ridicule from complete strangers. They\u2019ve even been refused service at public establishments. Their lives, and the lives of their family members, will never be the same,\u201d the lawsuit reads, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/oct\/06\/nolan-wells-friends-terrell-owens-defamation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Guardian<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wells went missing from a July 4 party on an island off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was found dead two days later.<\/p>\n<p>The district attorney\u2019s office wrote via Facebook at the time that Wells\u2019 death was \u201cconsistent with drowning.\u201d But an autopsy report, whose full results were not made public, found bruising on the back of his head, and an independent report commissioned by Wells\u2019 family found the same. The family also alleges that Wells\u2019 airways and stomach were devoid of water, which would seem to debunk the theory that he drowned.<\/p>\n<p>During the early days of the investigation, social media users began widely speculating that there was a racial factor in Wells\u2019 death after a photo emerged of the teen surrounded by white friends on their boat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/kyren-lacy-death-sports-world-mourns-former-lsu-star\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Sports World Mourns Kyren Lacy After Death at Age 24<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two of the friends suing Owens were targeted online for appearing in the photo.
