the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Customers disembarked the aircraft normally and our teams worked to get their travel plans back on track as quickly as possible,&#8221; the British Airways spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>FlightAware, a flight-tracking website, showed the aircraft turning back toward London but remaining airborne for several more hours.<\/p>\n<p>It circled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/travel\/vacation-destinations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over England<\/a> before eventually returning to Heathrow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/newsletters?cmpid=fnfirstnl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Matthew &#8220;Whiz&#8221; Buckley of Florida, a retired U.S. Navy F\/A-18 fighter pilot with nearly 40 years of flying experience, told Fox News Digital the flight pattern appeared consistent with an emergency descent that could follow a pressurization problem.<\/p>\n<p>Buckley said getting the aircraft below 10,000 feet would eliminate the need for <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/travel\/we-need-return-immediately-flight-crew-warns-pilot-health-emergency-unfolds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supplemental oxygen<\/a> if cabin pressure had been lost.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They did everything by the book,&#8221; Buckley said. &#8220;It sounds like everything worked as advertised.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For passengers, however, the sharper descent can be an unsettling experience \u2014 particularly if <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/world\/plane-passengers-scream-harrowing-mid-flight-video-violent-shaking-sends-cabin-ceiling-panels-flying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">oxygen masks<\/a> were deployed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/lifestyle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CLICK HERE FOR MORE LIFESTYLE STORIES<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re just used to regular boring airline flights, this one&#8217;s gonna get your attention,&#8221; Buckley said, explaining that the additional weight can put greater strain on the aircraft&#8217;s landing gear and brakes.<\/p>\n<p>Pilots facing an in-flight problem have to assess the aircraft&#8217;s condition and determine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/travel\/general\/travel-safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the safest course of action<\/a> before returning to the ground, Buckley added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t want to turn one emergency into another,&#8221;
