I\u2019m so happy to be able to work with him again,\u201d Sampson, 48, exclusively told <em>Us<\/em> ahead of the Monday, October 5, premiere. \u201cHe\u2019s hilarious. He\u2019s so good at what he does and he loves what he does. So he\u2019s been a wonderful person to be co-starring in a show with for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"starter\" class=\"mb1-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"mb1-static\" class=\"htlad-mb1\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"leader2-inline-static\" class=\"htlad-leader2\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Taking their onscreen relationship from platonic to romantic, however, took some time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I could not kiss him at work, I\u2019d be very happy about that too,\u201d Sampson quipped.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/best-tv-crime-couples-of-all-time-ranked-stabler-and-benson-more\/\" target=\"_blank\">Best TV Crime Couples, Ranked: Stabler and Benson, Tony and Ziva, More<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sampson, who plays Angie, clarified that she understands Priestley\u2019s heartthrob status, adding, \u201cI lived and died by Beverly Hills, 90210, However, when we started the original series and I had to be his boss, I had to literally check that at the door because I was like, \u2018I cannot be a giggling schoolgirl and let this man intimidate me.\u2019 And he\u2019s not intimidating because he\u2019s so kind. But I had to forget all of that and in working with him all the time, obviously I\u2019m just like \u2018He\u2019s just Jason.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Priestley, 58, for his part, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/costars-reunited-2013279\/\">had similar praise<\/a> for Sampson.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large credit-added wp-image-4462056\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PEWC102_0133.jpg?resize=900%2C600&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Private Eyes\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">Darko Sikman\/The CW<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI love Cindy. Whatever we\u2019re doing together, I\u2019m happy,\u201d the actor, who plays Shade, noted. \u201cShe\u2019s an incredibly talented performer and just a sweet, good person. Happy to spend time with her, no matter what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cWe\u2019ve known each other and we\u2019ve been friends for so long. For her, it was like kissing her brother, which is weird. But she seemed to get over it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based on the novel of the same name by <strong>G.B. Joyce<\/strong>, <em>Private Eyes<\/em> featured Priestley and Sampson as two protagonist private investigators solving crimes in Toronto. The show ran in Canada for five seasons before it was canceled in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Five years later, Priestley and Sampson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/tv-couples-who-took-a-very-long-time-to-get-together\/\">are reuniting for <em>Private Eyes: West Coast<\/em><\/a>, which picks up after Shade and Angie\u2019s onscreen kiss.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/tv-couples-we-need-to-see-together-in-2026-tracker-911-greys-anatomy\/\" target=\"_blank\">TV Couples We Need Together in 2026: From \u2018The Pitt\u2019 to \u2018Tracker\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the fans really wanted them to get together so I feel like everyone\u2019s going to be really excited to know that that\u2019s the turn that it took,\u201d Sampson gushed. \u201cObviously it was kind of funny because Jason and I are so close. We\u2019re very, very close friends in real life. To be like married at work, I was like, \u2018Oh gosh, here we go.\u2019 But it was really easy. It was seamless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Priestley spoke to <em>Us<\/em> about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/private-eyes-jason-priestley-cindy-sampson-return-with-baby\/\">what to expect in the new version<\/a> of the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot has happened and Shade and Angie are in very different places in their lives,\u201d he teased to Us. \u201cAs we come into the show, Matt Shade is on a book tour and he\u2019s written a book and leaning into his retirement in Victoria while being a full-time father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Priestley hinted at potential challenges, adding, \u201cBut being retired and Angie is grappling with having a one year old and the baby not needing her so much anymore. So how is she going to reintegrate into the world and society?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cWhen the opportunity arises in the first episode for Shade and Angie to get back into the world of being PIs, she is very enthusiastic and wants to do it. Shade is a little more reserved.
