Launching Thursday, \u201cVol. 1\u201d of his two-year partnership includes outerwear, dresses, tees, suiting, knitwear, lingerie and accessories, all priced from $30 to $999. An accompanying campaign was photographed by Steven Meisel.<\/p><div id=\"dev95-4286928514\" class=\"dev95- dev95-entity-placement\"><center>\r\n<script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 50,\r\n    'width' : 320,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highrevenueformat.com\/4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n\t<\/center><\/div>\n<p>For the collection, titled \u201cRe(form),\u201d Galliano deconstructed and reimagined Zara\u2019s \u201carchives\u201d (past collections) through techniques such as physical and digital hacking, shrinking, magnifying, swatching and splicing. For example, an \u201carchival\u201d coat is revamped into a net dress with faux fur trims; a shirt is graded up three times its original size to resemble a leather coat; two trousers are cut and repurposed into sans-culotte pants; and a lace shift dress is refashioned into a ruffled collar.<\/p>\n<figure><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fashionista.com\/.image\/NTg6MDAwMDAwMDAwODAyMTUy\/copy-of-sme_26008_0080_066_v5_qc_srgb_300.jpg?resize=540%2C675&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"540\" height=\"675\"><figcaption>Zara x John Galliano campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Steven Meisel\/Courtesy of Zara<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Deconstruction wasn\u2019t the only theme on Galliano\u2019s mind: The collection also drew inspiration from Les Incroyables and Les Merveilleuses, the defiant dandies and divas of post-Revolutionary France. They\u2019re \u201cevoked in contemporary guises through subversive and illusory compositions,\u201d according to the brand. \u201cIn the process, they appear through alternate lenses: the bourgeois spirit of the gardening wardrobe, the cinematic glamour of film noir.\u201d Their influence appears in the overcoats, breeches and frock coats.<\/p>\n<p>Galliano\u2019s Zara collaboration follows a years-long (and perhaps ongoing) effort to rehabilitate his image. In 2011, the designer was infamously caught on video spewing racist and antisemitic comments at Jewish and Asian patrons of a Paris caf\u00e9. He was quickly fired from his Dior gig, and later entered a drug and alcohol rehab program. Much of the fashion world has slowly welcomed him back: He quietly helped create Oscar de la Renta\u2019s Fall 2013 collection and was hired by Maison Margiela as creative director the following year. (He <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionista.com\/2024\/12\/john-galliano-leaves-maison-margiela\">resigned in December 2024<\/a>). Not long after, news broke that he would be the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionista.com\/2026\/07\/john-galliano-met-costume-institute-exhibition-spring-2027\">next spring\u2019s dedicated Costume Institute exhibit and Met Gala<\/a>, but the plans were <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionista.com\/2026\/08\/the-met-cancels-john-galliano-spring-2027-costume-institute-exhibit\">canceled<\/a> just a month later due to significant backlash.<\/p>\n<p>So, how will the public respond to his Zara collection? The Spanish retailer is about to find out. Zara x John Galliano will be available to shop online-only in the U.S. starting Oct. 1 at 4 a.m. ET.
