But what happens when you look not at what people say they like or eventually buy, but at the colors they consider along the way?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the premise behind the first <a href=\"https:\/\/samplize.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Samplize<\/a> American Paint Color Report, which analyzes millions of samples ordered in the United States during the first six months of 2024, 2025, and 2026. The data spans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/en-us\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Benjamin Moore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farrow-ball.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Farrow &amp; Ball<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Sherwin-Williams<\/a>, allowing Samplize to see which colors homeowners consider side by side before making a final decision.<\/p><div id=\"dev95-198454329\" class=\"dev95- dev95-entity-placement\"><center>\r\n<script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 50,\r\n    'width' : 320,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highrevenueformat.com\/4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n\t<\/center><\/div>\n<p>Makenna Lutz, partnerships lead at Samplize, explains that analyzing this sampling stage reveals three things: \u201cthe full shortlist a person actually weighed, which colors get tested against each other, and how that shortlist spans brands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Across those samples, one shift stands out. Warm colors grew nearly three times faster than cool colors over the three-year period and now account for 69.4% of everything tested on Samplize, up from 64.3% two years earlier. Half of all American shortlists contain no cool colors at all, compared with 43% at the beginning of the study.<\/p>\n<p>It would be easy to interpret that as another swing toward pale beige and cream, but the data suggests something more nuanced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe genuine surprise was in the split by depth,\u201d Lutz says. \u201cWe expected the warming to show up as lightening\u2014it didn\u2019t. Warm outgrew cool at every depth, and the deepest warm tones grew fastest of all, roughly six times faster than deep cool tones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one end are blush-toned plasters and warm creams like Farrow &amp; Ball\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farrow-ball.com\/us\/paint\/setting-plaster\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Setting Plaster<\/a>, Benjamin Moore\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/en-us\/paint-colors\/color\/af-260\/proposal\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Proposal<\/a>, and Sherwin-Williams\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/en-us\/color\/color-family\/orange-paint-colors\/sw6057-malted-milk\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Malted Milk<\/a>. At the other is Benjamin Moore\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/en-us\/paint-colors\/color\/hc-182\/classic-burgundy\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Classic Burgundy<\/a>, one of the darkest colors included in the study, which grew at a comparable pace. Homeowners haven\u2019t necessarily lost their appetite for dark, dramatic interiors\u2014the temperature of that drama is changing.<\/p>\n<p>Brown shades reinforce that shift, growing faster than any other color family and now appearing in 13.4% of shortlists, up from 9.2%. But the colors driving that growth aren\u2019t saturated chocolate or terracotta tones. Sherwin-Williams\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/en-us\/color\/color-family\/neutral-paint-colors\/sw7032-warm-stone\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Warm Stone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/en-us\/color\/color-family\/neutral-paint-colors\/sw7048-urbane-bronze\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Urbane Bronze<\/a>, Farrow &amp; Ball\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farrow-ball.com\/us\/paint\/london-clay\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">London Clay<\/a>, and Benjamin Moore\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/en-us\/paint-colors\/color\/983\/smokey-taupe\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Smokey Taupe<\/a> are muted greiges, warm grays, and stone-like shades rather than conventional browns.<\/p>\n<p>Green, meanwhile, appears to be settling into the American palette. After rising sharply and then holding at that higher level, it now appears in 34.6% of shortlists, with shades ranging from sage and moss to deeper botanical greens.<\/p>\n<p>The underlying behavior also suggests that temperature may matter more than individual color families. Two-thirds of shortlists contain colors from only one temperature group; half are entirely warm, while only about a third mix warm and cool shades.<\/p>\n<p>There are signs the warming palette may be getting more colorful, too. Pink and red are the fastest-growing color families from smaller starting points, while warm-and-deep was the fastest-growing combination of temperature and depth.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t make burgundy the next beige, nor does three years of sample data predict what American walls will look like several years from now. But the shift isn\u2019t simply toward lighter, quieter neutrals.
