Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the only justice to publicly dissent, Fox News reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals had previously rejected two requests to stop the execution based on concerns about the drug&#8217;s use.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Associated Press, as the pentobarbital began taking effect Wednesday evening, Howard took a couple of breaths and gasped.<\/p>\n<p>Howard then began making snoring sounds, coughed and resumed the snoring sounds, which grew progressively quieter. His movements reportedly stopped entirely after around 30 seconds, and he was pronounced dead 19 minutes later.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/christa-pike-botched-lethal-injection-takes-focus-off-victim-jeopardizes-execution-former-police-chief\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CHRISTA PIKE\u2019S BOTCHED LETHAL INJECTION TAKES FOCUS OFF VICTIM, JEOPARDIZES EXECUTION: FORMER POLICE CHIEF<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Howard&#8217;s attorneys also said in court filings that they had requested information about the <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/health\/what-know-pentobarbital-death-row-inmate-survives-2-lethal-injection-doses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dose of pentobarbital<\/a> the Texas Department of Criminal Justice planned to use to carry out the execution.<\/p>\n<p>The concerns stemmed in part from <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/lawyers-experts-urge-tennessee-governor-commute-christa-pikes-sentence-botched-execution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pike&#8217;s execution attempt<\/a>, during which she reportedly survived two doses of pentobarbital.<\/p>\n<p>Howard&#8217;s execution took place the same day a Tennessee judge granted a request from Pike&#8217;s attorneys to order the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve evidence connected to the failed execution attempt.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Death Penalty Information Center, Pike is the first person to <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/christa-pike-conscious-talking-after-surviving-2-doses-lethal-injection-drug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">survive a lethal injection<\/a> in the modern era.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/christa-pike-execution-failure-spares-murderer-bailed-victim-kill-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CHRISTA PIKE EXECUTION FAILURE SPARES MURDERER WHO BAILED VICTIM OUT JUST TO KILL HIM<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Howard&#8217;s attorneys also argued before the Supreme Court that his execution should be halted because he was intellectually disabled.
