You\u2019d think that Nintendo\u2019s 2008 DSi handheld would be in this category, but [gavff64] <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gavff64\/RNDS-Stream\" target=\"_blank\">has a workaround<\/a>. What if the odd homebrew title streamed games over the network?<\/p><div id=\"dev95-2635653691\" class=\"dev95- dev95-entity-placement\"><center>\r\n<script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 50,\r\n    'width' : 320,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highrevenueformat.com\/4ba6b6513c00e0ba76511f798ae56401\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n\t<\/center><\/div>\n<p>At its core the RNDS-Stream is just decoding an MJPEG stream from a server on a Linux PC, giving you the content of an X11 or xWayland window with relatively low latency at around 15-20FPS. So while you won\u2019t be entering any e-sports tournaments, you can enjoy more relaxed, casual games like Counterstrike. Well, at least there\u2019s no audio streaming yet, so you won\u2019t have to hear the other team\u2019s trash talk. That ought to make it more relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>Sound may come; the project is very much a work in progress, and also a showcase of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gavff64\/RubyNDS\" target=\"_blank\">RubyNDS<\/a>, [gavff64]\u2019s Ruby-based homebrew framework for the DSi. Why Ruby? Why the DSi? For no other reason than [gavff64] likes both of those things.You can observe it in action after 4:48 in the video embedded below\u2013 just be warned, it\u2019s editing is tuned to a TikTok-using audience and won\u2019t be to everyone\u2019s taste. Don\u2019t let videography get in the way, though, because the hack is the thing and it\u2019s up<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gavff64\/RNDS-Stream\" target=\"_blank\"> on GitHub<\/a> for all and sundry under an MIT license.<\/p>\n<p>The DSi is no stranger to hackers, having gotten<a href=\"https:\/\/hackaday.com\/2008\/12\/03\/nintendo-dsi-gets-its-first-flash-cart\/\"> its first flash cart<\/a> the year of its release.
